I joined the Branch in 1969 or 70 whilst still serving in 16 Ind Co. I was enjoying the camaraderie of company members and was encouraged to join the PRA by the CSM who deducted the £5 membership from you if you wanted to join or not. I emigrated to Canada in November 73 and left the Company then, in 1979 I returned from Canada, and re-joined the Branch, shortly after this the Chairman Peter Dawson Passed away and I took over the roll of Chairman for 2 or 3 years.
After this period I left for a while and was very pleased to be asked to re-join the Branch in 2000 and something (can’t remember when) and after some time was asked again to take the helm as it where and I am enjoying doing so and even with Covid 19 the Branch goes from strength to strength with the core team of 3 or 4 of us doing what we can to uphold the principles of the PRA.
I joined The Parachute Regiment in 1980 and completed nearly 14yrs with mainly 2 Para. After that I moved back to Sheffield then eventually to Cleethorpes area.
I have been involved with the Parachute Regimental Association before and after I joined. Firstly I used to visit them in Sheffield with a 3 Para lad I knew, meeting Arnhem and Normandy Veterans . This inspired me to join and so I did.
After I got out of the Army, I have done various jobs and still working. I was then introduced to Grimsby and Cleethorpes PRA. There wasn’t many in the branch when I joined but over the years we have grown to a lot more members and meet regularly. Years later I was voted in as Secretary of the branch.
During my 10yrs or so as a member of the branch, we have helped various Airborne Veterans and their famillies and will continue to do so. Also we support our present and future Airborne family.
